Each tee combines inspired scraps of fabric and the innovations in the production of cotton yarn to produce a quality casual piece that does good in the world. Your purchase supports:
A supply chain of 100% recycled US-grown cotton
A construction process that adheres to fair labor practices
The innovations in up-cycling vintage garments, fabric, and trim elements
Inspiration
From Parron’s years of designing in the corporate world he would leap at the chance to embark on adventures in the Garment District to allocate the perfect material for garments. It certainly beats sitting at a desk all day! Often times, he would acquire large scraps and cuttings for reference and store them away into his archives.
These repurposed scraps are now used as design elements in The Scrappy Tee. In addition, some styles incorporate fabric that were once part of vintage or gently used garments.
Sustainability
The sustainability of your Scrappy Tee can be traced through every step of its production.
The body is made of 100% recycled US-grown cotton using biodegradable dye. The fabric details are repurposed fabric scraps that are given a new life in a creative way.
Your tee began here in the US, with domestically grown cotton spun at an LA-based yarn factory. The yarn-making process produces a huge volume of cast-off fibers, and many factories do not consider the recycling of these fibers to be economical, resulting in significant waste.
Parron Allen partnered with a manufacturer that purchases, cleans, combs, and spins these cast-off fibers into new yarn. All of this is executed within a five-mile radius in LA to minimize the carbon footprint. Production in California ensures the highest environmental standards for all components.
Justice
Your tee also supports social justice on multiple levels. The LA-based manufacturers employ largely migrant workers and pay at or above California’s minimum wage—near $15 per hour, which is significantly higher than many similar manufacturing operations, even in the US.
Indirectly, the ongoing effort to improve sustainability has real impact for the communities most affected by climate change and aridification due to over-harvesting. This is especially pressing, as 40% of US-grown cotton comes from Texas, where the environmental consequences are acutely felt by border communities. By buying a Scrappy Tee, you’re investing in a sustainable, high-quality, timeless garment that actively does good in the world—a just tee shirt.
