Loretta Pettway’s “Medallion,” circa 1960
“Medallion” is the brightly-colored entryway piece to the Met Museum’s critically acclaimed and beautifully curated exhibit, “History Refused to Die,” featuring select pieces from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation gift. It is known as a housetop quilt for its resemblance to the roof of a house from overhead.
