This is Your Story, Too: Parron Allen Boutique
Lately, I’ve been trying to get into bed before midnight. I like to pretend if I’m in bed by 11pm, then it’s okay that I get up before dawn. I have always found it hard to sleep when I’m inspired. I wake up with an idea that I want to write or sketch about, but then more thoughts come and I can hardly remember my initial idea clearly, let alone put it on paper. This has been especially true with the opening of my boutique; I’ve been overflowing with ideas! I have also been overflowing with gratitude.
It’s an amazing opportunity to have creative space as an independent designer! It didn’t really hit me until the grand opening! Or maybe the day before, when I started crying on the subway platform en route to the flower district for a centerpiece. I got emotional, it all felt so magical.
I could not allow these early days of my boutique to slip away without singing the most heartfelt praises of gratitude to everyone who helped me along the way. Whether you wished me well, sent prayers in my direction, loved a post, blew a kiss, shook my hand, bought a piece, left a review, or anything else, you all are part of my store, and your support—however large or small it may seem—has made the Parron Allen Boutique part of your story, too!
First and foremost, I am so honored for the opportunity that Chashama’s Storefront Startup Program has given me to make my vision for the boutique come to fruition.
I could not have imagined when I lost my job last Fall that I would now have a Chelsea storefront to design, inspire, and share my love for the creative process with patrons of my work. Chashama and it’s founder, Anita Durst, made it possible.
It all started in this exact Chelsea storefront when I met the amazing Lesley Ware—founder and Creative Cookie behind the sustainable boutique Art to Ware. I would not have known about the possibility of this opportunity with Chashama had I not met Lesley. She has been a leader, mentor, and friend all along the way, and I’m honored to have her in my life.
Perhaps the biggest shout out goes to my husband and my brand CEO/CFO George! He knew how ambitious my vision for the boutique was and worked so hard to make sure what I had in my heart and head could come to life. And I couldn’t have asked for more supportive in-laws! They have helped every step of the way—from letting us keep countless yards of fabric and pieces of furniture in their basement to driving us into Brooklyn from busy weekends out on Long Island. Plus, having a sister-in-law who works as an art handler at the MET was such a blessing when it came time to hang dozens of art pieces securely and professionally throughout the space. My entire Long Island Family help in one way or another. To donating hangers to the simple act of showing up on the night of the opening to support!
It is bittersweet that my family from Mississippi could not make it in person, but their love and presence is felt in everything I do. Of course, they know me better than anyone and sent a beautiful flower arrangement for opening night!
So many people brought flowers and I Love it!
I get choked up about it, actually. When you do your best and strive with excellence and kindness people notice. And when you need help they don’t mind helping you. I feel like my journey has been touched by unbelievable grace. Opening up a boutique seems to be the melted yellow cheese on top of Mac and cheese at thanksgiving! That amazing topping on top!
Thank you all for the love you’ve sent my way during these crazy times. Opening night was fantastic and the beginning of what I hope to be an amazing time! I have so many ideas for new work, events, and hopefully a fashion show in the future. I’ll keep you posted ;)
