The Refashioning of Fashion In the Age of Covid19 : In Summary

It’s Sunday, June 14, 2020, and I am sitting in my design studio thinking about how far we have come on this COVID19 journey. So much has happened that I find it hard to imagine that this occurred just over 4 months. Where do we go from here? And to borrow the words from my Dad, “If you’ve been down for so long you ain’t got no other choice but to go up!” With a heart full of optimism, I ask all of you to hope for the best. Our country is set upon a stage of great change. We have so many opportunities to correct wrongs and learn from all of our mistakes whether we are consumers or retail organizations. As the lens of the world shifts to focus on positive changes this is the time for ALL of us to take note and be better.

To be ready to step into the unknowns of what the pandemic has brought to our world of fashion, check out my summary.

The Refashioning Cheat Sheet

  • Get Personal! - Get to know your customer. Likewise, the consumer should get to know the organizations that they are buying from. If a company is boasting about sustainability then what makes them that way? What practices have they implemented? Be vulnerable to the consumer to open more opportunities for meaningful connections. Brands and customers will all need to stand up for principles that are meaningful to help heal our economy.

  • Get Social! - Make social media your BITCH! With the use of a smartphone, we can make a great impact in connecting with our customers. By creating and incorporating creative avenues of expression in your organization’s social media presence you can create a more human lens on what your organization is all about. Consumers can use this as a way to get to know the brand and be more interested in making purchases.

  • Suit Up! It’s Time to Shop!- Now that stores are reopening it's going to be up to brands and organizations to make us feel secure once we step into the stores again. In like manner, shoppers will need to be understanding of this and wear the proper protective equipment upon entering and practice social distancing as required. Don’t forget to wash your hands!

This summary is also available as a GOOGLE DOCUMENT for you to take notes and expand upon these thoughts. I know I don’t know everything and I would love to learn from others about these topics. Let’s share notes and insights. I am open to viewing other perspectives on this topic. In fact, if we are to be better, it's best we work together and grow.
