Baby Isabel's Baptism
If you know me and happen to sit next to me at church, you would know I get super emotional whenever I am in the spirit or whenever our great Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Lewis delivers a heartfelt sermon from the Middle Church pulpit on Sundays. It seems I never leave service without balling my eyes out! But the services that touch my heart more than any are baptisms!
There’s nothing so touching as seeing a little child dressed in white getting blessed and accepted in love for the life ahead. So innocent and precious! So when my friend Edgar and his wife Ruby invited me and George to their granddaughter’s baptism, I just had to stop by to celebrate. We didn’t make it to the ceremony but we did share in the celebration afterwards.
Needless to say, I was not prepared for the abundance of love and generosity shared at this event! Family members walked around the venue bringing food to guests, serving ice cold beer, and passing out an unbelievable assortment of handmade and thoughtful keepsakes for guests to remember the occasion by (see below!). There was a professional photographer, balloons full of confetti, a magician, a pinata, and so much food and drink! Geez! I never got this much when I was baptized in Mississippi; I don’t even recall getting a pat on the back - as a Baptist, I was old enough to remember.
None the less, it was wonderful sharing this with Edgar and Ruby. Hahaha... I cannot help but laugh - Mrs. Ruby has been wanting me to experience a real Mexican family celebration with dancing, food, and tradition for years! so I am thankful to say I have had my chance after missing her Granddaughter Leslie's quinceanera last year (it was on George’s birthday and we had opera tickets). Plus, I got a chance to dance with Mrs. Ruby! She’s so fun and has a lovely heart!
